BLUE GUMS - GLADE

Scroll

The colour scheme for this was heavily influenced by the blue and gold of Sir Arthur Streeton whose work I admire. It seemed appropriate to work in the style of the Heidelberg School in this impressionistic representation of the gum trees in the Australian bush. I particularly like the play of light and broken colour on the trunks and branches of the trees.

Whilst out walking with friends in the Blue Mountains I had briefly become separated and quickly realised that no one could hear me, see me or knew where I was. I had no bearings to guide me. You suddenly recognise your predicament and feel very vulnerable. I was in a small clearing, the sun streaming through from high above. I noticed a break in the bush and headed down a track, fortunately catching up with my friends. The shaft of light in the glade represents direction and optimism in the Australian character.
