PAPA – SCRIBBLY GUM

Scroll

In this painting I have tried to express family relationships through the visual metaphor of the trees in this image. The father figure (Papa, named after Papa Rossii, a type of Scribbly eucalypt) is surrounded by other members of the family. They are clearn and in the foreground, or less defined and further back in the composition. This represents the ebb and flow of family relationships as they change and grow over time. The composition is deliberately symmetrical, suggesting balance in the family.

The reds and browns and burnt, warm colours represent the hot Australian climate and parched bush.
