Coal Coast at Dusk 2019

Scroll

This canvas was completed over many months. It is a view of Thirroul looking North, up the Illawarra coast. Famous for its many coal mines it is often referred to as The Coal Coast. Consequently, I have again used a restricted palette emphasising the darkness of coal in the landscape. Only the last remaining shafts of the orange, evening sun were piercing the stormy clouds. The water and sky were excellent vehicles to allow me to capture movement into these elements. The small lights on the hillside suggest the fragile relationship between man and the monumental scale of mother nature.
